AutoMine® is a professional automation and remote operation platform for mining equipment developed by Sandvik. It is also one of the earliest and most widely applied driverless mining solutions across the globe. After more than two decades of continuous iteration, the system has evolved into four core editions: Lite for single-machine remote control, Multi-Lite for multi-machine cluster operation, Core for full-mine unmanned mining, and Aura for 3D autonomous navigation, forming a complete technical system covering single-unit automation through to full-mine intelligent operation.
As an integrated platform for underground and open-pit mines, AutoMine® incorporates core functions including remote control, autonomous operation, intelligent dispatching and data monitoring. It is compatible with a wide range of equipment such as drill rigs, load-haul-dump machines and haulage trucks, enabling flexible deployment ranging from remote management of individual units to coordinated fleet operation of multiple machines. Supported by underground industrial private networks, 3D geological models and safety access control systems, it realizes full-process unmanned operations including autonomous hole layout, automatic rod changing and intelligent haulage. The system has recorded nearly 9 million accident-free operating hours to date.
Currently, AutoMine® has been deployed in over 100 mines worldwide, including more than 20 large-scale projects such as Glencore’s zinc mines in Australia, Codelco’s copper mines in Chile, Norilsk Nickel’s mines in Russia and Shandong Gold Xincheng Gold Mine in China, serving diverse mining scenarios for metallic and non-metallic minerals. By relocating operators from high-risk underground working areas to surface control rooms, the system greatly improves operational safety. Meanwhile, thanks to 24-hour non-stop operation and micron-level control accuracy, it boosts production efficiency by over 15% and reduces rod changing failure rates by 70%, serving as a key driver for mines to cut costs and improve efficiency.
Featuring a modular architecture and high compatibility, AutoMine® can connect with existing mine facilities and support phased upgrading from manual operation to full automation, meeting the demands of lightweight retrofits for small and medium-sized mines as well as full intelligent transformation for large mines.
