Publised in www.mining.com

Global zinc production is poised to rise over the coming years as elevated prices encourage miners to restart idled capacity and begin production at new mines.

Using production data provided by Miningintelligence, MINING.COM takes a look at the 10 biggest zinc producers in world in terms of their 2019 output.

The Red Dog mine in Alaska operated by Canada’s Teck Resources kept its top dog”status with zinc production of 552.4kt in 2019, a 5% decline over the previous calendar year.

Vedanta’s Rampura Agucha underground mine remains the runner up with 358kt of zinc produced, despite a sharp decline (18%) over the 438kt produced in 2018.

The no. 3 and 4 spots are both occupied by Glencore operations in Australia: Mount Isa Zinc and McArthur River. The giant Antamina mine in Peru dropped two spots to no. 5 after seeing its output plunge over 25% to 255.6kt last year.
